The mol-ecular conformation of the title compound, C20H 17N3, is stabilized by an intramolecular C - H⋯N inter-action. The crystal structure shows inter-molecular C - H⋯π inter-actions. The dihedral angle between the isoquinoline unit and the phenyl ring is 11.42 (1)° whereas the isoquinoline unit and the pendent dimethyl pryrazole unit form a dihedral angle of 50.1 (4)°. Furthermore, the angle between the mean plane of the phenyl ring and the dimethyl pyrazole unit is 47.3 (6)°. © 2009 Manivel et al.

N-substituted pyrazoles, pyrroles, and pyrazolones have been synthesized from 1,3 diketones, 1,4 diketones or α-haloesters, and hydrazinoisoquinolines. Reaction occurred at room temperature and furnished the desired products in excellent yields. The structures of the synthesized products were confirmed spectroscopically, including use of one dimensional 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and two-dimensional H,H-COSY and C,H-COSY. The antioxidant activity of the pyrazoles was evaluated and compared with that of the standard antioxidant BHT. Synthesis, structure determination, and antioxidant activity of novel 1-pyrazolyl-3-substituted isoquinolines, 1-pyrrolyl 3-substituted isoquinolin-1-amine, and 1-pyrazolonyl-substituted isoquinolines

The diversified bis-isoquinolinones were obtained in two steps, utilizing homophthalic acid and various acid chlorides providing 3-substituted isocoumarins in the first step which on further condensation with 1,7-heptadiamine involving C–N bond formation from the lactone in the presence of 10 mol% zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) (&lt;150 nm) afforded the desired bis-isoquinolinones in high yield and purity. The synthesized compounds were then characterized using FTIR,1H NMR,13C NMR, and HRMS techniques.
