A comparative study on feasible technologies for eco-e-tolling-low cost prototype based on arduino and raspberry-Pi

In today’s world we all have encountered the problem of huge and messy traffic at some or another time. Sometimes this traffic is caused by number of vehicles running and sometimes by slow manual processing. The best example of traffic generated by human processing is on toll tax gates, every highways have number of toll tax gates which collect revenue for the maintenance of the highways, now one by one from each vehicle tax is collected which creates a long queue and exhausts so much of time as well as fuel, the aim of this paper is to identify the feasible technologies for eco e – Toll Tax System. To overcome existing issues in the current implementation of the Toll system, this paper implements Bluetooth based e- toll prototype. The paper also discusses about the human made errors during toll-tax collection and it will also propose the method of unmanned toll-tax gate. The prototype is based on ATmega 328 which has been programmed by Arduino platform and Raspberry-Pi is used for managing the database and internet connectivity from the main server. The prototype is capable of making contact with the driver using Bluetooth technology and deducts the tax online, it also updates the whole transaction through raspberry pi LAMP server on the main database. © RJPT.
