Development of CAD/CAM integration facilitates computer aided fixture design system for different part geometries. In manufacturing operations like machining, inspection and assembly fixtures are used to locate, hold and support the work piece. Computer aided fixture design is incorporated in most of the modern manufacturing process. Mainly virtual fixtures are widely used in virtual manufacturing processes. This paper presents a review and critique of various fixture design methodologies and tools used. It also includes recent developments and technology used in fixture design i.e. computer aided fixture design, computer aided fixture planning and computer aided fixture analysis. © 2016, International Journal of Pharmacy and Technology.
