Optimization of growth parameters and investigations on the physico-chemical properties of an organometallic guanidinium chromate single crystal for nonlinear optical and optical limiting applications

Paracetamol-Picric acid (PP) cocrystals were grown from ethanol by slow evaporation solution growth technique. The compound C14H12N4O9 crystallizes in monoclinic system with centrosymmetric space group P21/c. The band gap energy was estimated by the application of Kubelka–Munk algorithm and the cut-off wavelength is ∼491 nm. The molecule is associated with accommodating weak C[sbnd]H⋯O, O[sbnd]H⋯O, π … π and H⋯H stacking interactions, very much responsible for the formation and strengthening of supramolecular assembly. Inter- and intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions show supramolecular architecture in the crystal packing. Third-order nonlinear optical properties of the grown crystal were derived by employing a single beam Z-scan technique at a wavelength of 532 nm diode pumped CW Nd:YAG Laser system. Theoretical calculations were performed using density functional theory (DFT) method to derive the optimized geometry, dipole moment, polarizability and hyperpolarizability. Molecular interactions are analyzed and quantified by Hirshfeld surfaces, derived from single crystal XRD data. Fingerprint plots of Hirshfeld surfaces were used to locate and analyze the percentage of hydrogen bonding interactions. The O⋯H/H⋯O interactions mainly contribute to the observed microlevel nonlinearity. © 2019

Cocrystallization of Paracetamol-Picric acid: Hirshfeld surface analysis, supramolecular architecture and third-order nonlinear optical properties

Organic compound of protonated Piperazinediium bis (4-aminobenzoate) dihydrate C4H12N2 2+2(C7H6NO2 −).2(H2O) (PZ4AB) was synthesized and crystal was grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique. Powder X-ray diffraction and High resolution X-ray diffraction studies affirmed the crystalline perfection of the grown crystal. Fourier transform infrared spectral analysis ascertained the frequencies of various functional groups present in PZ4AB crystal. Optical transmittance and optical band gap estimation explored the optical phenomena of PZ4AB crystal. The laser-induced surface damage threshold value of PZ4AB crystal was measured to be 1.0615 GW/cm2 for the 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser radiation. From Thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric studies, the stability of PZ4AB crystal was ascertained. The dielectric manner was endowed as a function of frequency and temperature. The mechanically soft nature of the crystal was assessed by Vickers hardness measurement which exhibited the reverse indentation size effect. The nonlinear refractive index, absorption coefficient and the third-order nonlinear susceptibility of crystal were divulged by Z-scan technique. © 2019

Synthesis, crystal growth, and characterization of piperazinediium bis (4-aminobenzoate) dihydrate - An efficient third-order nonlinear optical single crystal for opto-electronic applications

l-Phenylalanine l-Phenylalaninium Formate (LPPF) is an organic nonlinear optical crystal with molecular formula C9H11NO2·C9H12NO2+·CHO2-, was grown by solution growth, slow evaporation method. Single crystal XRD reveals that the title compound crystallizes in monoclinic system with the space group P21. The presence of functional groups was identified by FT-IR spectrum. UV-visible spectrum analysis shows that the crystal exhibits good optical transparency with a minimum cut-off wavelength of 200 nm. Refractive index of the crystal was measured as 1.6408 by using prism coupling technique. The Dielectric constant and dielectric loss were studied as a function of frequency at different temperatures and also activation energies were measured at different frequencies. The melting point of LPPF was found as 276.37 °C by TG-DSC analysis. Second order NLO efficiency was estimated by Kurtz Perry Powder technique. Third order NLO properties like nonlinear absorption coefficient (β), nonlinear refractive index (n2) and third order nonlinear susceptibilities (χ3) were measured with femto second pulsed laser using Z Scan technique. From third order NLO studies it is noticed that the material exhibiting strong reverse saturable absorption which is an essential requirement for passive optical limiting application.

Spectral, nonlinear optical and optical limiting properties of l-phenylalanine l-phenylalaninium formate single crystal

Organic nonlinear optical single crystal of 4-methylpyridinium 2-carboxy-6-nitrobenzoate (4MPCNB) was grown from aqueous solution by the slow evaporation solution growth technique at ambient temperature. HRXRD analysis reveals that the monoclinic 4MPCNB crystal shows good crystalline perfection. The molecular structure information, transmittance and emission properties of grown crystal were elucidated by FTIR, UV–visible and photoluminescence studies. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the crystal were estimated as a function of frequency at various temperatures. The laser damage threshold was measured by using Nd:YAG laser source, and these results were mutually related with specific heat capacity of the grown crystal. Third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility was measured by Z-scan technique. © 2018, The Optical Society of India.

A new organic NLO material isonicotinamidium picrate (ISPA): crystal structure, structural modeling and its physico-chemical properties

Guanidinium trichloroacetate (GTCA), a novel organic single crystal was grown by a slow evaporation technique. The single crystal X-ray diffraction study revealed that the GTCA crystal belongs to tetragonal crystal system with the space group P41. From the linear optical studies, the lower cut-off wavelength of grown crystal was found at 257[Formula: see text]nm. The luminescent study showed that the GTCA crystal has high degree of luminescence. The single shot laser damage threshold of grown crystal is found to be 2.6[Formula: see text]GW/cm2. The nonlinear refractive index, absorption coefficient and third-order susceptibility were estimated by Z-scan technique. The two independent tensor coefficients [Formula: see text] of the dielectric permittivity were calculated.
