Abstract
Generally, image texture is used in computer vision, but there is no particular definition of it which is mostly accepted. However, it is described by fairly small scale structures which are spread uncertainly relative to the object. It is obvious that these characteristics are typical of variances in remote sensing images. Texture analysis is an important element of image processingthat haswidespreadrelevance in science and engineering. Especially, remotely sensed images contain several texture levels and much noise. In addition, the quality of remotely sensed images is quantified using the image texture. So, texture based segmentation approaches could be useful instead of traditional image segmentation algorithms. Texture based segmentation methodologies focus on extracting texture feature and including it in traditional algorithms for remote sensing so that the feature selection and classification can be improved for remote sensing. © Research India Publications.
