Abstract
The moisture content is an important factor to be measured and controlled for a variety of grain such as wheat that corn and nuts. This paper presents a number of methods are used to measuring moisture content(MC) in agricultural products. These methods based on the principle that a functional relationship exists between the moisture content of grain and its dielectric constant. This dielectric constant is related to the capacitance value. Therefore a sample of in-shell peanuts or corn or nuts was placed separately between a set of parallel plate electrodes and the impedance and phase angle of the system mostly measured at frequencies 1 and 5MHZ and the measured values at these frequencies were used ian a derived empirical equation to calculate MC. Parallel plate capacitance sensor provided the highest predictability 96%. These methods are rapid and nondestructive. © Research India Publications.
