Abstract
The technical improvement in power electronics plays a vital role in the development of wind power system. This paper investigates the causes and effects of voltage stress in AC/DC/AC converter used in wind energy system. Although there are various reason for the generation of voltage stress, The pulse with modulation (PWM) switching is used to control the thyristor value or switches is considered as the major source of the voltage stress generator. This voltage stress not only affects the performance of the system, also leads to the early failure of the system. In this paper, an enhanced commutation circuit is proposed to improve the performance of the AC/DC/AC converter or Adjustable drives (AD) by reducing the voltage stress. © 2016 IEEE.
