Abstract
Demand side management abbreviated as DSM is a methodology which will be useful in meeting out the growing load demand without considerably increasing the generation capacity. DSM is a control strategy which re-schedules or curtails the electric loads present in the customer premises in order to achieve certain benefits. In most of the cases DSM is used to curtail the non-critical loads during peak hours and shift them to off-peak hours of the day based on the cost of electricity. DSM can be implemented to industrial, residential and commercial customers based on the requirements of the utility and support provided by the consumers. This study presents an overview on the residential demand side management techniques used for home energy management. © 2019 IEEE.
