Analysis and design of ultra-high step up converter for DC microgrids

In this paper, a novel DC-DC converter topology that provides very high gain at high power rating is presented. The proposed DC-DC converter is obtained by combining interleaved boost converter (IBC), coupled inductor and switched capacitor. Voltage gain expression and design equations of the proposed converter are derived. The operational modes, characteristic waveforms and the design details of the 60V/6.6kV, 3kW DC-DC converter are also presented. Results obtained from simulation prove that the converter is capable of providing a very high voltage gain of 100 at high power rating of 3kW. Based on the proposed design and simulation results, it is observed that the voltage and current stress of the main switch is within acceptable limits. Thus, the proposed converter promises to be a suitable alternative to existing topologies in DC microgrid applications. © 2013 IEEE.
