Abstract
This study proposes to provide patterned web reinforcements to composite sandwich slabs and try to further better their mechanical performance. The design of these webbed reinforcements was done using SOLIDWORKS 2015. The webbed reinforcements were of three different regular shapes (square, hexagonal and triangular), and were introduced to the sandwich slabs in varying densities in terms of cross sectional area. These structures were imported into AN SYS Workbench 15.0 and were made to recreate simply supported conditions at 4 edges. The slabs were then centrally loaded and the deformation and stress results output values were observed. ANSYS is a finite element modelling software, through which finite element analysis was carried out. It was found that the patterned web-reinforcements significantly reduce the deformation of the slab, whereas only in greater densities of the reinforcement is the stress value also significantly reduced. © IAEME Publication.
