Several classifiers are prevalent which act as a major drive for almost all supervised machine learning applications. These classifiers, though their objective working looks similar, they vary drastically in their performances. Some of the important factors that cause such variations are the scalability of the dataset, dataset nature, training time estimation, classifying time for the test data, prediction accuracy and the error rate computation. This paper focuses mainly on analyzing the performance of the existing four main classifiers: IF-THEN rule, C4.5 decision trees, naïve Bayes, and SVM classifier. The objective of this research article is to provide the complete statistical performance estimates of the four classifiers to the authenticated cloud users. These users have the access facility in obtaining the essential statistical information about the classifiers in study from the cloud server. Such statistical information might be helpful in choosing the best classifier for their personal or organizational benefits. The classifiers follow the traditional underlying algorithms for classification that is performed in the cloud server. These classifiers are tested on three different datasets namely PIMA, breast-cancer and liver-disorders dataset for performance analysis. The performance analysis indicators used in this research article to summarize the working of the various classifiers are training time, testing time, prediction accuracy and error rate computation. The proposed comparative analysis framework can be used to analyze the performances of the classifiers with respect to any input dataset.

A Study on Cross-Layer TCP Performance in Wireless Ad Hoc Network

Attempts to harness the big climate data that come from high-resolution model output and advanced sensors to provide more accurate and rapidly-updated weather prediction, call for innovations in the existing data assimilation systems. Matrix inversion is a key operation in a majority of data assimilation techniques. Hence, this article presents out-of-core CUDA implementation of an iterative method of matrix inversion. The results show significant speed up for even square matrices of size 1024 X 1024 and more, without sacrificing the accuracy of the results. In a similar test environment, the comparison of this approach with a direct method such as the Gauss-Jordan approach, modified to process large matrices that cannot be processed directly within a single kernel call shows that the former is twice as efficient as the latter. This acceleration is attributed to the division-free design and the embarrassingly parallel nature of every sub-task of the algorithm. The parallel algorithm has been designed to be highly scalable when implemented with multiple GPUs for handling large matrices.

Embarrassingly Parallel GPU Based Matrix Inversion Algorithm for Big Climate Data Assimilation

Intrusion detection is very essential for providing security to different network domains and is mostly used for locating and tracing the intruders. There are many problems with traditional intrusion detection models (IDS) such as low detection capability against unknown network attack, high false alarm rate and insufficient analysis capability. Hence the major scope of the research in this domain is to develop an intrusion detection model with improved accuracy and reduced training time. This paper proposes a hybrid intrusion detection model by integrating the principal component analysis (PCA) and support vector machine (SVM). The novelty of the paper is the optimization of kernel parameters of the SVM classifier using automatic parameter selection technique. This technique optimizes the punishment factor (C) and kernel parameter gamma (γ), thereby improving the accuracy of the classifier and reducing the training and testing time. The experimental results obtained on the NSL-KDD and gurekddcup dataset show that the proposed technique performs better with higher accuracy, faster convergence speed and better generalization. Minimum resources are consumed as the classifier input requires reduced feature set for optimum classification. A comparative analysis of hybrid models with the proposed model is also performed.
