Image segmentation is one of the important processing steps in image, video, and computer vision applications. Research has been done for finding many different approaches and algorithms for image segmentation, but it is still difficult to assess whether one algorithm produces more accurate segmentations than another. And also, there is no general image segmentation algorithm that works for all images. In this paper, we reviewed different morphological and clustering techniques for image segmentation. Extensive evaluation methods of these techniques are presented. The advantages and disadvantages of these techniques are also analyzed and discussed in this paper. © Springer India 2014.
