Abstract
This paper investigates a reduced switch symmetric multilevel inverter integrated with photovoltaic panels to generate the quality of output waveforms. The photovoltaic panel is tested under Standard Test Conditions to prove the effectiveness of reduced switch multilevel inverter in renewable energy application. Perturb and observe maximum power point tracking is utilized for tracking the maximum power from photovoltaic panel. Boost converter is utilized for gaining the voltage at the required level. Unipolar Phase Disposition Pulse Width Modulation technique is adopted to generate the switching pulses of power semiconductor switches at reduced switch multilevel inverter. The parameters like Total Harmonic Distortion, fundamental RMS voltage and Crest Factor are calculated for various modulation techniques and the values are compared with conventional Cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (CHBMLI). Simulation results are obtained using MATLAB/SIMULINK for justifying the operation of reduced switch multilevel inverter. © 2018, Academic Publishing House. All rights reserved.
