Abstract
In this paper we demonstrate the major nonlinear characteristics of Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) in a single channel telecommunication system implemented with Large Effective Area Fiber (LEAF). In order to realize the effective noise domination of EDFA in optical system, it was implemented in two systems with one compensated for its dispersion with Dispersion Compensation Fiber (DCF) and other as non-compensated system. The system with different fiber spans of 80, 160, 320, 400 and 480Km were deployed in both systems to note the Noise Figure (NF) escalation. We analyze the fundamental theme, the accumulation of NF increases with the distance increases which is characterized in our results in terms of Q-factor, Bit-error Rate (BER) and eye height. Moreover, to comparatively point out the NF character of EDFA, dispersion compensated system is studied with and without noise figure. We realized that, although DCF forms significant role in transmitting longer path, the NF of EDFA comes with more vulgarity in DCF that normal transmitting fiber which degrades the system performance. © Research India Publications.
