Abstract
The aim of the present investigation was to screen the bioactivity of Streptomyces sp. VITJS9 strain isolated from Kanyakumari, South East coast of India. The morphological, physiological, biochemical and phylogenetic properties of the strain was confirmed by conventional methods. The ethyl acetate crude extract tested for antibacterial activity showed better zone of inhibition at 30 mg/ml concentration against bacterial pathogens. In DPPH scavenging assay the IC50 value of the crude extract was found to be 150 lg/ml and showed cytotoxic effect with IC50 of 125 lg/ml on HeLa cells. The GC–MS analysis revealed the presence of three major chemical constituents namely N-Hexadecanoic acid, Octadecanoic acid and Dimethylsulfoxonium formylmethylide. © The National Academy of Sciences, India 2015.
