Abstract
The application of wireless technology for process monitoring and control comes with the advantages of flexibility, reliability and reduced cost of cabling. However, it also comes with problem of network-induced delays as a result of using wireless transmitters. Therefore, this paper investigates the effect of using WirelessHART network on the control performance of pilot flow plant. The plant will be controlled using PI, PID and Fuzzy PID controllers both wired and over WirelessHART network. Experimental results of the controllers shows that, the performance of these controllers is degraded when the control is done over WirelessHART network. This is in terms of imposed deadtime, slower settling and rise times. However, control is still possible over the wireless network. © 2018 IEEE.
