Artificial neural network-based control strategies for PMSG-based grid connected wind energy conversion system

This paper presents a novel control strategy employing the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and direct power control strategy (DPC) for permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind energy conversion system (WECS). The WECS adopts medium voltage source converter with AC-DC-AC configuration. The 10 MW wind farm is implemented in this paper which consists of 2 MW PMSG's wind systems. The PMSG's of the wind farm is connected to the DC collection grid through a DC/DC rectifier topology. The DC collection system is connected to the AC grid using single DC/AC inverter thus providing simple control technique which controls the number of PMSG generators. The output power fluctuations are compensated using direct torque control based maximum power point controller and direct power control. The DC link voltage and the active power injected to AC grid is controlled using grid side controller and the maximum power is extracted using the machine side controller of the wind turbine. Pitch angle control strategy is also used in order to reduce the turbine speed during high wind speed condition. The proposed controller provides aneffective solution for grid integration and constant power flow from the generator system to thegrid system. Simulation results are presented and analyzed the performance of the control strategies implemented in the system. © 2018 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Neural Network Based Maximum Power Point Tracking Control with Quadratic Boost Converter for PMSG—Wind Energy Conversion System

The operational characteristic of doubly fed induction generator under voltage imbalance condition is analysed in this paper. A co-ordinated control strategy employing generator side and grid side converters is presented in this paper. The control strategy calculates the compensation unbalanced voltage which is then incorporated with the reference voltage of generator side and grid side converter in order to restrain the electro magnetic torque pulsation effectively. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, the topology is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink for 1.5 kW DFIG grid connected system which is subjected to voltage unbalance. The results obtained shows that the proposed control technique can effectively reduce the torque pulsation and stator reactive power. © 2017 IEEE.

Research of multilevel inverter (MLI) has always been a noteworthy inspiration to increasing number of levels with decreasing total harmonic distortion (THD). Various topologies of symmetric dc source and asymmetric dc source multilevel inverter have been developed. In this paper, a new asymmetric dc source hybrid multilevel inverter topology with minimized switch count is proposed. It is possible to extent any number of levels. Multicarrier pulse width modulation techniques are adopted for triggering the gate pulses. The operation of the proposed topology is explained with 15-level output voltage. In that, phase disposition (PD) technique has 8.03% of THD when compared to the carrier overlapping (CO) technique. The simulation results are carried out by using MATLAB/Simulink with different modulation index. © 2015 IEEE.
