Abstract
In this paper, a broadband magneto-electric dipole antenna is proposed and analyzed for LTE femtocell base station. The antenna consists of defected semi circular horizontal patches and rectangular vertical patches shorted to the square ground. The antenna is fed by simple hook shaped feed. The simulated and measured impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 51.9 % (1.67–2.84 GHz) and 53.5 % (1.62–2.81 GHz) at (Formula presented.) , respectively. Also, the antenna exhibits unidirectional radiation pattern at both planes with half power beamwidth greater than 65 (Formula presented.) across entire frequency of operation. The gain of the antenna varies from 6.6 to 7.8 dBi. Further, the lumped equivalent circuit model is proposed to verify the resonance characteristics of the antenna. In addition, one to one correspondence between antenna geometry and equivalent circuit parameters were analyzed. © 2015, Springer Science+Business Media New York.
