The aim of this project was to design a structurally stable chassis for an electric motorcycle. With the increasing pollution and stricter emission norms, there is an urgent need to switch to green technology. In India, 62% of petrol is consumed by motorcycles. Therefore, there is a major scope of reducing pollution through electrically driven motorcycles. There are no electric motorcycles in India at the time when this project was initiated, whatsoever. Therefore present work attempted to design the chassis for electric motor driven motorcycle for street legal transportation. The design is not complete without proving it to be structurally stable. Hence simulated real time forces on the frame and suspension geometries. In the simulation, compared the stress, factor of safety and the deformation of the same structure with different materials to finalize the best suitable material for the chassis on the basis of strength, cost and weight of the chassis. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd.
