In this paper presents a comparative analysis of two control method applied to a single phase Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF). It is about Model Predictive Control (MPC) based Direct Current Control (DCC) and Indirect Current Control (IDCC) strategy. The performances of two current control strategies were verified through a simulation with MATLABSimulink Software. Simulation results confirmed that compared to the DCC strategy, the IDCC strategy using MPC becomes simpler and need less hardware components.

A Model Predictive Current Control (MPCC) of single phase Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) is introduced in this paper. A single phase Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) is used as a SAPF to compensate the current harmonic and reactive power. A DC link capacitor voltage regulation based Proportional - Integral (PI) control algorithm is adopted for determining the reference current. A bridge rectifier with RL and RC loads are acting as a Non-Linear Loads (NLL). The harmonic compensation performance of SAPF and associated control methods like switch on response and transient responses were verified through a simulation with MATLAB software. © 2017 The Authors. Generalized Frequency Domain Formulation of the Switching Frequency for Hysteresis Current Controlled VSI Used for Load Compensation

A novel control method for a reactive volt-ampere compensator and harmonic suppressor system is proposed. It operates without sensing the reactive volt-ampere demand and nonlinearities present in the load. The compensation process is instantaneous, which is achieved without employing any complicated and involved control logic. The compensator is operated in cycle-by-cycle reference-current-controlled mode to achieve the instantaneous compensating feature. A mathematical model of the scheme is developed. Detailed analysis and simulation results are presented. A laboratory prototype of the compensator is developed to validate the results.
