Abstract
To design novel microwave devices with advantageous characteristics and smaller dimensions, metamaterials and especially left handed materials are extensively used in modern microwave integrated circuit design. In micro strip technology, CSRR are etched in the ground plane underneath the micro strip line. In this paper, a micro strip line loaded with array of CSRR is designed and the designed structure is simulated in HFSS. This provides a band stop filtering effect with sharp rejection at resonant frequency of 2.4 GHz. In order to obtain LH behavior, a parameter that adds effective negative permeability has to be introduced. By etching capacitive gap in host micro strip transmission line the LH material behavior is achieved. This provides a band pass filtering effect with a narrow pass band around 2.4 GHz (2.2-2.5 GHz). Both CSRR-based band stop and band pass filter show good filtering characteristics like maximum sharp rejection level (50 dB) in stop band and sharp transition between stop bands and pass band. © Research India Publications.
