Designing a C-band metamaterial based miniaturised patch antenna for multiband applications

Abstract
This paper examines the design performance of metamaterial (MTM) microstrip patch antennas (MSPA) for multiband applications. The double square loaded reactive impedance surface (DS-RIS) metamaterial unit cell are analyzed for C-Band antenna designing. The metasurface/metasubstrate of MSPA is formed by array of DS-RIS unit cells. Radiation characteristics of Square and triangle shape patches are studied using these metasurfaces. The overall dimensions of antennas are 20*20mm2. It is observed that square and triangular shape patches show resonance at three frequencies at 4.5, 6.4 & 7.3GHz in C-Band with directive gain of more than 5dBi. © Research India Publications.
