The influence of the windshield and the side mirrors of the Tesla Model S (2015) on the surrounding flow structure and the vehicle’s aero-acoustic characteristics is investigated by performing a computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis. Various configurations of the aforementioned external detail have been devised and analyzed via transient simulations at a velocity of 180 km/h which is close to the vehicle’s top speed. The results provide important insight into how the vehicle’s exterior geometry can be optimized to alleviate aerodynamic noise and enhance the range of the vehicle. © Research India Publications.
