In this paper, a modified hexagonal micro-structured fiber as a dual core hexagonal photonic crystal fiber is proposed by removing two holes on each side of central air hole in vertical direction. By using finite element method and optimising the structural parameters a polarisation splitter is realised. Numerical results show that high birefringence in the order of 10-3 and shorter coupling length is obtained. A polarization splitter of 2.3mm long with-34.788dB extinction ratio is achieved at a wavelength of 1550 nm using optimized structure for a d/Λ of 0.7 © 2017 IEEE.
