Abstract
Concrete structures are often subjected to various types of dynamic forces. Fibre reinforcement improves the dynamic behaviour of reinforced concrete plates under impulse loading. The paper reports an experimental investigation on the dynamic behaviour of steel fibre reinforced cement concrete (SFRC) plates. The variables considered were percentage volume fraction of steel fibres, aspect ratio, the angle of impact and the thickness of the plate. The observations of acceleration, frequency response and the shape of the impulse curve were studied. The frequency response is lower for sections which is supported on two sides than for the plate supported on all four sides and it increases with the thickness of the plate. Instantaneous peak acceleration increased with increased angle of impact. The shape of the impulse curve can be either triangular or trapezoidal.
