This paper presents Interior search algorithm for solving economic load dispatch problem of a microgrid. ISA is a aesthetic seeking algorithm which is inspired from the interior design and decoration. The efficacy of ISA has been validated on a simple microgrid test system which comprises wind generators, fuel cells, diesel generators. Simulation results reveal that ISA appears to be a robust unconventional technique for elucidating the ELD problems in microgrid when compared with the other optimization techniques taking into consideration the superiority of the solution attained. © 2019 IEEE.

The term microgrid refers to small-scale power grid that can operate autonomously or in concurrence with the area’s main electrical grid. The intermittent characteristic of DGs which defies the power quality and voltage manifests the requirement for new planning and operation approaches for microgrids. Consequently, conventional optimization methods in new power systems have been critically biased all through the previous decade. One of the main technological and inexpensive tools in this regard is the optimal generation scheduling of microgrid. As a primary optimization tool in the planning and operation fields, optimal operation has an undeniable part in the power system. This paper reviews and evaluates the optimal operation approaches mostly related to microgrids. In this work, the foremost optimal generation scheduling approaches are compared in terms of their objective functions, techniques and constraints. To conclude, a few fundamental challenges occurring from the latest optimal generation scheduling techniques in microgrids are addressed.

A review of optimal operation of microgrids

The purpose of the combined economic emission dispatch of generation in an electric power is to offer the finest schedule for the generating units which must run with both lesser fuel cost and emission levels concurrently thereby fulfilling the system equality and inequality constraints. This paper presents an interior search algorithm (ISA) for solving multi-objective combined economic emission dispatch (CEED) problems. Simulation results obtained substantiate the efficiency of ISA algorithm in solving the CEED problems. The effectiveness of the proposed ISA is investigated on five various test systems which comprise three-unit system, IEEE 30-bus system, 10-unit system, 20-unit system, and Taiwan 40-unit generating system. Simulation results and their comparison with other meta-heuristic optimization techniques reveal that the proposed ISA is proficient in solving CEED problem of fossil fuel generators. © 2018 John Wiley &amp; Sons, Ltd.

Multi-objective economic emission dispatch using interior search algorithm

This paper presents cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) for solving non-convex economic load dispatch (ELD) problems of fossil fuel fired generators considering transmission losses and valve point loading effect. CSA is a new meta-heuristic optimisation technique inspired from the obligate brood parasitism of some cuckoo species by laying their eggs in the nests of other host birds of other species. The strength of the proposed meta-heuristic optimization technique CSA has been tested and validated on the standard IEEE 14-bus, 26-bus and 30-bus system with several heuristic load patterns. The results have indicated that the proposed approach is able to obtain significant economic load dispatch solutions than those of Firefly Algorithm (FFA) and other soft computing techniques reported in the literature.
