Aluminum matrix composite currently used in engineering applications due to their desirable combination of properties. Development of aluminium matrix composite has become an essential area of research interest in material science. Aluminium based graphene composite are finding increased application in electrical, automobile and aerospace applications because of its light weight. In this present work dealt with mechanical and microstructure properties AA8030 reinforced with 5 different wt% of Graphene. The bottom pouring stir casting machine was used to fabricate AA8030-Graphene composite. Fabricated samples were tested according to the ASTM standard. The microstructure and mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile strength, flexural strength of fabricated samples were evaluated. © 2019 Author(s).

Effect of graphene reinforcement on mechanical and microstructure behavior of AA8030/graphene composites fabricated by stir casting technique

Metal matrix composites based on aluminum were developed for light weight applications particularly in aerospace and automobiles sectors. This research article focuses on the development and characterization of Aluminum alloy 7050 matrix composites reinforced with Graphene nanoparticles. Liquid metallurgy techniques such as stir casting and squeeze casting processes were adopted for fabricating the composites. Certain parameters like melting temperature, stirring speed and graphene content with three levels were considered for the fabrication experiments. Taguchi's L27 Orthogonal array is used to evaluate the yield strength, tensile strength and hardness of AA7050-graphene composites fabricated by stir and squeeze casting. Based on the experimental results, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to determine the level of influence of the parameters on the strength properties such as yield, tensile strengths and hardness of the specimens. © 2019 The Authors. Characterization on Aluminum Alloy 7050 Metal Matrix Composite Reinforced with Graphene Nanoparticles

Aluminium alloy metal matrix composites (MMCs) have obtained wide spread acceptance in automotive and aerospace applications because of its high strength, low density and good structural rigidity. This work studies the mechanical and microstructural properties of hybrid metal matrix composite reinforced with Al2O3/SiC prepared by using powder metallurgy technique. Hardness and compressive strength of aluminum matrix composite increased with increase in wt% of SiC. The characterization results showed the improvement in mechanical properties with addition of hybrid reinforcement. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Experimental investigations on mechanical and microstructural properties of Al2O3/SiC reinforced hybrid metal matrix composite

Squeeze casting is known to overcome the defects that incur during the conventional casting processes. The near-net shape manufacturing ability and potential to yield higher hardness are the capability of the squeeze casting provided technical parameters are accurately controlled. In this research, optimization technique for squeeze casting process parameter is established by Taguchi technique to explore the correlation among the hardness and tensile strength. Four different process parameters namely squeeze pressure, melt temperature, die temperature and holding time were selected to perform the experiments using L16 orthogonal array. The composites obtained for optimum cast conditions were squeeze pressure 100 MPa, holding time 30 s, melt temperature 750 °C and die temperature 100 °C exhibited better hardness and tensile strength. The identified process parameters provide a favorable condition for processing the alloys directly on the melt up to the time of complete solidification. The results indicate that there exists a strong correlation between hardness and tensile strength. © 2018 IOP Publishing Ltd.
