Aluminum alloys which exhibit high strength, low weight and cost has been used for various applications. AA5383 is an alloy which is relatively used in marine industries has find its wide usage in marine industries. In this present study the AA7075 and AA5383 is joined by means of Friction Stir Welding. The parameters which influence the welding are tool rotational speed, transverse feed and axial load. The tool rotational speed choosen are 700, 800, 900rpm and the transverse feed is 40, 60, 80mm/min. The axial load is kept constant at 10kN. The square tool pin profile is choosen which is made up of high speed steel. The joints were obtained successfully and their macro structure characteristics is studied using optical microscope and the impact testing is performed study the behaviour of welded objects under dynamic loading. The presence of zinc in AA7075 and magnesium in AA5383 gives good mixture and high strength to the weldment. © Research India Publications.
