In the present paper, we studied the effect of thermal stratification with variable permeability and melting on mixed convective heat transfer from a vertical plate in a non-Darcy porous medium. The various physical parameters entering into the problem on dimensionless velocity, temperature, and Nusselt number were discussed graphically. Using similarity variables, the partial differential equations are transformed to ordinary differential equations and are solved using MATLAB bvp4c solver numerically. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

Effects of Thermal Stratification and Variable Permeability on Melting over a Vertical Plate

We have presented an analysis to study the effect of melting with variable permeability on non-Darcy mixed convective flow over a vertical surface. The influence of thermal radiation was considered on the right hand side of energy equation. The variation of permeability in the vicinity of the solid boundary is approximated by an exponential function. The governing partial differential equations were transformed into ordinary ones using a similarity transformation and solved numerically by using Matlab bvp4c solver. The numerical results were validated by comparison with previously published results in the literature. The effects of physical parameters on the velocity, temperature and heat transfer coefficients are determined. We also tested how the variation in the variable permeability affects the physical parameters of the problem. © 2016 The Society of Powder Technology Japan. Peristaltic transport of a Casson fluid in a channel with perme-able walls is investigated. Exact analytical solution of the flow quantities are developed under long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions. The effects of Darcy number and yield stress on the pumping characteristics are obtained and discussed. It is observed that for a given δP, the flux Q̄ decreases with increasing Darcy number. Further, it is noticed that for a given δP, the flux Q̄ decreases with increasing yield stress τ . This may be due to the yield stress behaviour of the Casson fluid. The results of the trapping phenomenon are analyzed. Four different wave forms are considered. The comparison of the different wave forms is discussed. © 2014 Academic Publications, Ltd.
