This is the first report on gallic acid mediated synthesis of tetragonal rutile tin oxide (SnO2) nanoparticles (NPs) and their photocatalytic activity towards organic dye methylene blue (MB), sunset yellow (SSY) and carmoisine A (CA) under 254 nm UVC irradiations. The crystal structure and crystallite size of SnO2 NPs was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies. The SnO2 NPs mean diameter of 9 nm was obtained by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. The photoluminescence and absorption studies were carried out by using fluorescence and UV–Vis spectrophotometers. Its band gap was found to be 3.1 eV. The photocatalytic studies have explored the potential of SnO2 NPs towards mineralization of three dyes, which was confirmed by using UV–Vis spectrophotometer and total organic carbon (TOC) analyzer. Our results show that all three dyes were degraded 100% within 50 min under UVC irradiation which suggest its promising capacity in alleviating environmentally pollutant dyes. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.

Mineralization of toxic industrial dyes by gallic acid mediated synthesized photocatalyst SnO2 nanoparticles

Effective removal of organic pollutants from wastewater becomes notable research because of its ecological and environmental importance. In the present study Andrographis echioides leaf extract was used for the synthesis of calcium hydroxide nanoparticles (Ca(OH)2-NPs) from calcium oxide as the calcium source. The secondary metabolites present in the plant source act as a capping agent for the formation Ca(OH)2-NPs. Further NPs were applied for photocatalytic degradation. The intention of the approach is to be low-cost preparation and easy degradation (degradation of dye without any effect) to the environment. The synthesized Ca(OH)2-NPs was characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ultra violet diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, zeta potential and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (dye pollutant) studied under three different light sources such as UV, visible and sun light using Ca(OH)2-NPs. Degradation efficiency of Methylene blue dye examined under UV–Vis spectroscopy. Degradation percentage of Ca(OH)2-NPs under UV, visible and sunlight are (98.96, 97.52 and 96.38%) respectively. The overall study suggests that Ca(OH)2-NPs exhibit excellent photocatalytic property against UV, visible and sunlight. © 2017, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.

Facile Biosynthesis of Calcium Hydroxide Nanoparticles Using Andrographis echioides Leaf Extract and Its Photocatalytic Activity Under Different Light Source

In the current work, zinc aluminate and bismuth doped zinc aluminate (ZnAl2-xBixO4, x = 0, 0.05, 0.1) spinel oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation method. The obtained samples were characterized by powder XRD, FT-IR, DRS, SEM-EDX and BET. Photocatalytic degradation of zinc aluminate and bismuth doped zinc aluminate nanoparticles were investigated using methylene blue as a model pollutant under UV light. 98. 28% of photodegradation of methylene blue was achieved in 150 min using the bismuth doped zinc aluminate catalyst. The reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol was completed within 7 s using bismuth doped catalyst. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

Catalytic activity of bismuth doped zinc aluminate nanoparticles towards environmental remediation

In this study, bismuth doped copper aluminate (CuAl2-xBixO4 x = 0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05 and 0.10) nanoparticles were prepared via the solution combustion method and characterized by numerous procedures like powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDAX) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). UV–Vis spectra exhibit low band gap energy ranging from 1.77 to 1.88 eV for the synthesized semiconductor oxide nanoparticles. The photocatalytic activity of copper aluminate and bismuth doped copper aluminate nanoparticles was studied by performing the decomposition of organic pollutants such as Methylene blue and Rhodamine-B under UV-light and visible light. It has been noticed from the results that the highest degradation was observed for Methylene blue dye with the bismuth doped copper aluminate (CAB03) nanoparticles compared to Rhodamine B. 99.71% degradation of Methylene blue was obtained within 60 min under UV-light irradiation and 99.90% within 60 min under visible light (H2O2) with 25 mg of catalyst. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.

Structural, optical, magnetic and photocatalytic properties of bismuth doped copper aluminate nanoparticles

Fenton catalysts, H2O2/Fe2+, have been known for a long time and are employed for environmental remediation through the Fenton mechanism involving reactive oxygen species (ROS). Storage and transportation of H2O2 limits its applications. Semiconductor photocatalysts have also been explored extensively toward environmental remediation involving ROS through irradiation of light. There is a need to develop a single catalyst that combines both Fenton and photocatalytic mechanisms. With this objective, we designed and synthesized a new catalyst based on ZnO2/Fe2+ that is useful for environmental remediation. This single catalyst that exhibits simultaneous Fenton-photocatalytic reactions produces H2O2 in situ from the peroxide of ZnO2 (solid), thus avoiding storage and transportation. This new catalyst works in the dark (Fenton-like), under visible light (photo-Fenton) and UV light (photocatalytic) mechanism. Furthermore, the performance is better than the known Fenton catalyst. © 2017 American Chemical Society.

Simultaneous Fenton–Photocatalytic Reactions through a New Single Catalyst (Nano ZnO2 /Fe2+) for Dye Degradation

Enhanced photocatalytic activity of nanocrystalline N-doped ZnSb2O6: role of N doping, cation ordering, particle size and crystallinity

Nanocrystalline zirconium oxide powder has been prepared by the glowing combustion method using sucrose as the fuel and zirconyl nitrate as an oxidant in aqueous solution. The oxidant-to-fuel ratio was optimized (0.2) to prepare nanocrystalline zirconia. The influence of calcination temperature on the phase evolution of zirconia was also studied. The prepared powder was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, Raman spectroscopy, particle size analysis, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and surface area analysis. Powder XRD pattern itself clearly revealed the presence of metastable tetragonal phase at room temperature. Raman spectrum revealed the presence of both tetragonal and monoclinic phases. TEM and surface area studies confirmed that the particles were in the nanoregime (5-30 nm). © 2010 The American Ceramic Society.
