PCGTAW the heat required to melt the base material is supplied only during the peak current pulses allowing the heat to dissipate into the base material. In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to multipass weld the Inconel to Inconel material using the PCGTAW; ERNiCrMo-3 filler wire is used for the experimentation. The investigation involves metallurgical and mechanical properties of pulsed current gas tungsten arc welding onInconel 600. In this work, an attempt has been made to investigate the double v-grooved weldability; metallurgical and mechanical properties of the PCGTA welded with Inconel 600 similar materials, mechanical property relationships of Inconel 600 weldments are discussed in detail.

Multipass Welding On Inconel Material with Pulsed Current Gas Tungsten Arc Welding

This article investigated the weldability, metallurgical and mechanical properties of Inconel 625 and AISI 316L stainless steel weldments obtained by continuous current (CC) and pulsed current (PC) gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) processes employing ERNiCr-3 and ER2209 fillers. Microstructure studies showed the migrated grain boundaries at the weld zone of ERNiCr-3 weldments and multi-directional grain growth for ER2209 weldments. It was inferred from the tension tests that the fracture occurred at the parent metal of AISI 316L in all the cases. Charpy V-notch impact tests accentuated that the CCGTA weldments employing ERNiCr-3 filler offered better impact toughness of 77 J at room temperature. Further a detailed study has been carried out to analyze the structure â property relationships of these weldments using the combined techniques of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. Characterization of metallurgical and mechanical properties on the multi-pass welding of Inconel 625 and AISI 316L

This research article reports the effect of filler metals on the weldability, microstructure, tensile strength, and impact toughness of bimetallic joints involving ferritic stainless steel (AISI 430) and super-austenitic stainless steel (AISI 904L). These dissimilar combinations were obtained using continuous current (CC) and pulsed current (PC) gas tungsten arc-welding (GTAW) processes, employing duplex stainless steel (ER2553) and Inconel 625 (ERNiCrMo-3) fillers. Microstructure studies revealed the presence of grain boundary martensite and a slight grain coarsening effect in the HAZ of AISI 430 for all the cases. The study also inferred that both CCGTA and PCGTA welding employing these fillers resulted in better joint strength by observing failure at the parent metal of AISI 430 in all the trials. Impact toughness was found to be better for the PCGTA weldments employing ERNiCrMo-3 filler due to the refinement of grains. The impact studies showed that the root pass corroborated higher toughness values than the cap zone for all the cases. Based on the structure–property relationships, this study recommends the use of PCGTA employing ERNiCrMo-3 for joining AISI 430 and AISI 904L. © 2015, Springer Science+Business Media New York and ASM International.

Effect of Filler Metals on the Structure–Property Relationships of Continuous and Pulsed Current GTA Welds of AISI 430 and AISI 904L

In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to weld the precipitation hardened Nickel based super alloy Inconel 718 and austenitic stainless steel AISI 316L using Continuous Current Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (CCGTAW) and Pulsed Current Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (PCGTAW) process employing ER2553 and ERNiCu-7 fillers. Microstructure examination using optical and SEM analysis clearly witnessed the formation of unmixed zone at the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) of Inconel 718 for all the joints. The studies showed the absence of deleterious phases in the CCGTA and PCGTA weldments employing ERNiCu-7. Tensile studies corroborated that the fracture occurred at the parent metal of AISI 316L in all the cases. It was inferred from the present study that PCGTA weldments employing ERNiCu-7 exhibited better metallurgical and mechanical properties. Influence of filler metals and welding techniques on the structure–property relationships of Inconel 718 and AISI 316L dissimilar weldments

This paper investigates the weldability, metallurgical and mechanical properties of the dissimilar joints of Inconel 625 and AISI 304. Dissimilar joints were obtained by gas tungsten arc welding process employing ERNiCrMo-3. Tensile fracture occurred at the parent metal of AISI 304 in all the trials. The structure-property relationships on these dissimilar weldments were evaluated using the combined techniques of optical microscopy and SEM /EDAX techniques.
