Abstract
In this article, an attempt has been made to design a new updraft fixed bed advanced microgasifier cookstove (ACS). The newly developed ACS stove has been tested with a Tamarind seed pellet as fuel. Results have been analyzed in terms of energy and exergy efficiency, emissions and economics (4E). The testing practice adopted for evaluation of the performance of the ACS stove is as per the standard protocol WBT 4.2.3. The energy efficiency of an advanced cookstove was found to be 35% and the exergy efficiency of 17.3%. Experiments have also been performed to provide data for investigation of the emission characteristics of the new stove. Eventually, the simple payback period has been determined as 2 months for four members of a family. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Environ Prog, 37: 1901–1907, 2018. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers
