Abstract
Al-6063 plates are normally used for structural and special machine elements application which is limited due to their low hardness and wear resistance. Friction Stir processing (FSP) is a narrative surface modification technique, which reduces the size of undesirable coarse particles, eliminates porosities, homogenizes and refines the microstructure is not obtained through other surface engineering techniques. This paper investigates the effect of Al-6063 plate reinforcement with hybrid Composites of boron carbide (B4C) and silicon dioxide (Sio2) particles with an average size of (<10µm) at various compositions. The reinforcement mixture of the two particles of various compositions was obtained from the volume fraction. Then, it is filled compactly in the square groove, which is subjected to friction stir processing. FSP has been carried out using a tool rotational speed of 1200 rpm of 40 mm/min and an axial force of 8 kN. As a result of these composites, hardness has been significantly improved but impact test has been carried out to know the impact strength of various compositions. © Research India Publications.
