Abstract
Friction welding is animportant solid-state joining technique. Friction welding of tube-to-tube plate using an external tool (FWTPET) is a vital friction welding process which is capable of producing leak proof highquality weld joints. An FWTPET weld has been prepared for two different grade materials weld preparations. Besides, compression strength of these two different materials after welding has been presented and analyzed. In the present study, friction welding of SA 213 tube to SA 387 tube plate using an external tool with hole (WH) and without hole(WOH) tube projection on without backing block has been performed. The joints were evaluated by compressive strength using UTM machine.Taguchiapproach was applied to determine the most influential control factors which will yield better joint strength.L9 orthogonal array was used in this study. Through the Taguchi parametric design approach, the optimumlevels of process parameters were determined. The percentage of contribution of each process parameterwas determined by Analysis of variance. (ANOVA). © Research India Publications.
