Abstract
In this paper, metallurgical and mechanical properties are assessed for Incoloy 20 weldment made using traditional arc welding methods with ERNiCrMo-4 filler metal. High magnification microscopes (optical and scanning electron microscopes) are utilized to observe the microstructure of welded specimens. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy is utilized to explore the elemental segregation of welded specimens. Secondary precipitates formed during welding are identified through X-ray diffraction method. It is explored that crack-free weldments are achieved from both continuous current gas tungsten arc welding (CCGTAW) and pulsed current gas tungsten arc welding (PCGTAW) processes. Hardness, impact and tensile tests are conducted to identify the mechanical properties for welded specimens. Results of CCGTAW and PCGTAW specimens are compared and analyzed in detail. Comparatively, PCGTAW specimens offered better results than that of CCGTAW. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
