Abstract
The rising consciousness of climate change has pressured manycountries to utilize Renewable Energy Resources (RER) for powergeneration. Among the various RER, Wind power generation system playsa vital role and satisfies about 28% of world energy requirement. It is expected nearly 496 GW wind turbines are to be installed worldwide by the end of 2017. Even though wind power is abundant in nature only a few countries have shown interest to potentially utilize the wind power for electricity generation. India is one among the countries which utilize wind power potential for the purpose of electricity generation. This paper embarks upon some major possibilities in India for exploration on wind power employment in electricity generation. Furthermore, the survey also summarises advanced technology implemented, future opportunity, government initiatives, important achievements and guiding principle on wind power consumption. It also addresses the most important initiative taken by the government on subsidies and noticeable policies to promote wind power utilization by the government. © 2018 IEEE.
