Employing Burkhard Konig's l-(+)-tartaric acid-dimethyl urea (DMU) mixture as an efficient catalyst or as solvent for the Michael addition of various chalcones with N-arylhomophthalimides could successfully furnish the corresponding 4-subtituted-N-arylhomophthalides under mild conditions. The melts were found to be inexpensive, nontoxic, simple to use, high yielding, reusable, and biodegradable. © 2014 American Chemical Society.

A volatile organic solvent-free and choline chloride (ChCl)-based deep eutectic system (DES)-mediated sp 3 -CH functionalization of acetophenones 1 with benzyl alcohols 2 to the corresponding α, β-saturated ketones 3 is accounted for. The domino dehydrogenation-aldol condensation (hydrogenation borrowing concept) has been successfully attempted with palladium-tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) [Pd(PPh 3 ) 4 ] catalyst-xantphos ligand combination. Furthermore, a sequential Friedländer reaction of 2-aminobenzophenone 4 and palladium-catalyzed α-alkylation of the quinolinyl methyl ketone with benzyl alcohols 2 in ChCl-based DES have been successfully investigated. The C-C bond formation through sp 3 -CH functionalization involves a wide scope of the substrates, high atom efficiency, chemoselectivity, and environmentally friendly strategy. © 2019 American Chemical Society.

Choline Chloride-Based Deep Eutectic Systems in Sequential Friedländer Reaction and Palladium-Catalyzed sp3 CH Functionalization of Methyl Ketones

The diversified bis-isoquinolinones were obtained in two steps, utilizing homophthalic acid and various acid chlorides providing 3-substituted isocoumarins in the first step which on further condensation with 1,7-heptadiamine involving C–N bond formation from the lactone in the presence of 10 mol% zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) (&lt;150 nm) afforded the desired bis-isoquinolinones in high yield and purity. The synthesized compounds were then characterized using FTIR,1H NMR,13C NMR, and HRMS techniques.

An efficient copper-free Pd(OAc)2/Ruphos-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling of 1-chloroisoquinolines in the formation of 1-alkynyl-3-substituted isoquinolines

A facile and microwave accelerated reaction of 1-chloro-3-(4-chlorophenyl) isoquinoline with various heterocyclic amines, catalyzed by Pd, in the presence of BINAP additive and sodium carbonate as the base, leads to the formation of 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)isoquinoline, 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1- (1H-imidazol-1-yl)isoquinoline and 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl) isoquinoline via Buchwald protocol in good yields. Similarly pyrazolylisoquinolines are also reported. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.
