Green synthesis of Pd NPs from Pimpinella tirupatiensis plant extract and their application in photocatalytic activity dye degradation

In this article, we have discussed the biosynthesis of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) using aqueous Saccharomyces cerevisiae extract and its photocatalytic application. The biosynthesised PdNPs were characterised by UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) and Atomic force microscopy (AFM). The formation of PdNPs was confirmed from the disappearance of the peak at 405 nm in the UV-Vis spectrum. Agglomerated and hexagonal shaped PdNPs were noted by SEM. FTIR was performed to identify the biomolecules responsible for the synthesis of PdNPs. Bioactive compounds in the yeast extract acted as secondary metabolites which facilitated the formation of PdNPs. The yeast synthesised PdNPs degraded 98% of direct blue 71 dye photochemically within 60 min under UV light. © 2018 Vietnam Academy of Science &amp; Technology.

Biosynthesis of palladium nanoparticles using Saccharomyces cerevisiae extract and its photocatalytic degradation behaviour

The sustainable synthesis of nanoparticles provides an eco-friendly and interesting approach in the domain of clean synthesis and nanobiotechnology. The in vitro synthesis of silver nanoparticles from the aqueous extract of an indigenous South African plant: Ekebergia capensis is reported in this paper. The rapid fabrication of Ag NPs were observed by visual colour and was confirmed using UV spectroscopy; the emergence of a yellow–brownish colour confirmed the yield of silver nanoparticles. Also, a time course study on the effect of concentration of AgNO3 was undertaken. The synthesized Ag NPs was characterized by TEM, XRD, and DLS whilst, FTIR and GC–MS provided information on the functional groups adhered to the surface of the Ag NPs. The XRD peak of synthesized Ag NPs showed their crystalline structure. DLS and TEM studies revealed spherical or near spherically shaped Ag NPs of particle size 20–120 nm. Furthermore, the catalytic performance of Ag NPs in the degradation of Allura red (AR) and Congo red (CR) were characterised by UV spectrophotometry. The Silver nanoparticles were observed to have excellent catalytic properties on the degradation of AR and CR which is confirmed by the dyes mineralized in λmax values. The catalytic process involved the electrons relay effect and is attributed with time. © 2017, Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Bio-Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Agroforestry Residue and Their Catalytic Degradation for Sustainable Waste Management

Biosynthetic methods are alternative approaches which are much safer than the normal techniques (physical and chemical) used for the methods for synthesis of metal nanoparticles. The benefits are sample as it is economic and environment friendly. Herein present investigation, we have reported a microwave mediated eco-friendly synthetic approach for preparing cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles. Here, we used Moringa oleifera peel as the stabilizing and reducing agent towards synthesize of Ce2O NPs via microwave irradiation. The NPs were further characterized using UV-Vis, FT-IR, XRD and HR-TEM techniques. The FTIR analysis confirmed the phytochemical involvement in NPs stabilization. The crystallinity of CeO2 nanoparticles are well demonstrated through X-ray Diffraction and HR-TEM. The TEM images reveal the spherical shape of the CeO2 NPs having an average size of 45nm. Additionally, these CeO2 NPs were used successfully as a catalyst in the degradation of the dye, crystal violet. Also the antibacterial activity of the synthesized CeO2 NPs was evaluated using Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive bacteria) and Escherichia coli (Gram negative bacteria). CeO2 NPs showed better activity on E. coli than S. aureus. We have demonstrated an eco-friendly preparation of CeO2 nanoparticles, a good photocatalyst and having better antibacterial properties.

Photocatalytic and antibacterial properties of phytosynthesized CeO2 NPs using Moringa oleifera peel extract

Most of researcher focused their research towards synthesize of nanoparticles by the method of applied chemical method which was one of the costliest method. We have focused cheapest and simplest method for the synthesizing of lead nanoparticles (Pb-NPs) using cocos nucifera L extract. The methanolic extract of cocos nucifera L was efficiently used as a reducing agent for synthesizing Pb-NPs. On treatment of lead acetate with cocos nucifera coir extracts, stable Pb-NPs were formed. The synthesized Pb-NPs were further confirmed by UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and Energy Dispersive (EDAX) analysis. The secondary metabolites present in methanolic extract which can mainly act as a reducing and capping agents for the formation of Pb-NPs were identified by GC-MS. Anti-microbial activity for Pb-NPs against four pathogenic strain's such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escheria coli, Staphylococcus epidermis and Bacillus subtilis. Result states that Pb-NPs size was 47 nm and also shows good activity against S. aureus. Further we report on photocatalytic absorption of malachite green dye processed in short UV wavelength at 254 nm. UV spectral analysis showed peak absorbance at 613 nm with special reference to the excitation of surfaces plasmon vibration by Pb-NPs.
