Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) based technologies have deeply changed people's daily lives. There are many AI-based applications used in industrial scenarios such as Internet of Things (IoT), smart grids, and edge computing. Although bringing AI into industrial scenarios could improve the performance in many aspects, new security and privacy issues are also introduced consequently. Subsequently, machine learning technologies require a training process which introduces the protection problems in the training data and algorithms. As many machine learning and deep learning models are vulnerable against well-designed adversarial input samples, outsourcing data and algorithms for training will require the integrity of the training data. Also, data privacy of the end users must be protected. On the other hand, traditional solutions for industrial system security could also be enhanced by these AI schemes. The papers in this special section focus on emerging privacy and security issues brought by Artificial Intelligence in industrial informatics. © 2005-2012 IEEE.
