Abstract
In this paper, we have analysed and studied the handoff mechanism in Long Term Evaluation (LTE) network. A LTE network has been defined with a set number of macro-cells, micro-cells and mobile devices. In this handoff mechanism distance and speed has been considered as an important parameters. The speed has been detected using the Gauss Markov Mobility Model, and from that distances have been predicted at different instances. In the handover process, Received Signal Power (RSP) for various users has been calculated with respect to base stations at various time intervals and the path loss between transmitter and receiver. A comparative study between path loss models is done in order to improve the signal power. A detailed study has been done on unnecessary handoff probability and handoff failure probability. Simulation results shows that there is an improvement in performance of the above mentioned parameters in the defined network. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
