Abstract
Increased data rate requirements in short haul applications has enhanced the research on data transmission using graded-index multimode fibers (GI-MMF). Among the several optical launching techniques for exciting the fundamental mode in an MMF mode-field diameter matched twin-spot launching (MFDM-TSL) is a technique with much higher alignment tolerance. In this paper we study the influence of wavelength and fiber core radius on the misalignment tolerance as well as the extinction ratio of the excited fundamental mode. It is found that extinction ratio of excited fundamental mode increases with wavelength and fiber core radius, leading to a larger bandwidth even at higher offsets. © 2017 IEEE.
