Abstract
Massive generation of plastic wastes from innumerable sources makes threat to the atmosphere and reprocessing them to sidestep the disposal is a global concern. Due to the environmental and economical benefits, research works are under way to utilize these wastes in the concrete technology. Determining the properties of the composite concrete mixture is not only an issue, but conserving natural resources for the next generation use is the major problem. According to researchers, 20% of aggregates can be easily replaced with the plastic wastes i.e., 10.64 billion metric tons in 53.2 billion metric tons calculated according to The Fredonia group, Inc survey conducted worldwide for the year 2017. This paper comprises a detailed review of the literature on the wastes utilization in the green concrete and its properties. Thus the necessity of incorporation of different waste materials like recycled plastic aggregates and Supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) for sustainable concrete in the present scenario and the methods to improvise its properties is described. © IAEME Publication.
