Abstract
This report investigates the suitability of replacement of river sand by granite fines in proportions, based on laboratory test results such as compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength of concrete. M25 grade concrete was used and the mix design wasa done according to the IS method. The tests are conducted by using granite fines in proportions with river sand 0%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% and 100% of river sand replaced by granite fines. Standard cubes have been casted and cured for 7 and 28 days for compressive strength and cylinders, prisms have been casted and tested for 28 days for split tensile and flexural strength tests. The test results proved that the compressive strength, split tensile strength, flexural strength increase till about 30% of river sand replaced by granite fines beyond which the strength of concrete decreases. The use of granite dust has increased the strength and durability of concrete considerably upto certain extent. © Research India Publications.
