Abstract

Studies were conducted with bunch type of groundnut
cultivars viz., TMV 13 and VRI 6 with the objective to the
effect of chemical spray on the resultant seed quality.
Dormancy was induced using growth retardants viz.,
Maleic Hydrazide (MH) and Abcisic Acid (ABA). Different
concentration (MH- 250 ppm, MH- 500 ppm, MH- 750 ppm,
MH- 1000 ppm,1250ppm, ABA -250ppm &ABA 500ppm)
of growth, retardant was sprayed with different growth
stages (60 DAS &90 DAS) of the plant at field level and
dormancy was induced by ABA @ 500 ppm and MH @
1250 ppm sprayed at 60 days after sowing. Effect of
chemical spray on the resultant seed quality showed that
ABA @ 500 ppm and MH @ 1250 ppm sprayed at 60 days
after sowing recorded lower germination and vigour
parameters because of persisting lesser dormancy of seeds
induced by spray chemicals and its residual effect in both
cultivars. The protein content was increased in both
cultivars whereas the oil content differed significantly
between cultivars.
