Electric vehicles are rapidly gaining popularity in the countries due to lower environmental pollution and independence on crude oil import. In this work, an overview of technical background of electric vehicle technologies is presented. The review covers the key concepts used in this field such as storage device, drivelines, charging process and emissions of an electric vehicle. Although the trend of electric vehicle adoption is satisfying, these electric vehicle technologies need continual development for wider acceptance. The implementation of appropriate charging strategies and government policy will decide the time frame of success of electric vehicles. From this review paper, readers will gain a technical background with ideas of future research field on electric vehicle technology. © 2018.
