Cross-phase Modulation (XPM) is third-order nonlinear optical effect appears in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) channel. XPM converts the power or intensity fluctuation in one channel to phase fluctuation in another channel. Due to this, the total refractive index seen by a particular channel is influenced by the power of that channel as well as optical intensity of the neighboring channels. The effect of XPM in WDM for radio over fiber (RoF) systems has been analyzed, and a mitigation process has been presented in this paper. The effect of XPM with and without RF signals is analyzed for different power levels at fixed dispersion value 20 ps/nm/km dispersion rate itself. © 2018, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
