Abstract
A detailed design procedure for simplex pressure swirl atomizer is presented. The atomizer characteristics are calculated using empirical relations provided by researchers in the field. Its characteristics will be numerically predicted and compared with theoretically calculated, using available CFD code. A simplex pressure swirl fuel atomizer has tangential inlet ports. Tangential passage is provided to impart tangential velocity component to liquid flow. Liquid turns into the swirling chamber and exits the atomizer with a radial, tangential velocity component along with axial velocity. This leads to formation of liquid conical sheet (film) which subsequently breaks into ligaments and droplets. © Research India Publications.
