Atom search optimization (ASO) is a new star among metaheuristic techniques with very contestant offerings. It is based on the atomic movement naturally, where atoms interact with each other through interaction forces resulting from the potential of Lennard-Jones and constraint forces resulting from the potential of bond-length. In this paper, ASO is used to solve optimal power flow (OPF) problem. The proposed method optimal power flow using atom search optimization (OPF-ASO) has been applied to the standard IEEE 30-bus test system for different objectives. In addition, in addition, the results obtained using OPF-ASO were compared to those obtained using other techniques mentioned in the literature. Results obtained and compared indicate that OPF-ASO provides a robust, high quality solution with different complexities. © 2019 IEEE.
