Abstract
Curcuma zedoaria a traditionally used medicinal plant belonging to the Zingiberaceae family. Rationale of the study was to screen the extracts for the presence of various phytoconstituents and examine its antibacterial potential and it's a-amylase enzyme inhibitory activity. The soxhlet extraction of C. zedoaria rhizomes with different solvents and phytochemical screening of the extracts showed the presence of terpenoids, saponins, phenols, and alkaloids. The extracts were screened for its antimicrobial activity. From the results, it was observed that chloroform extract (CHE) showed potent activity compared to standard drug (Chloroamphenicol), whereas the ethyl acetate (EAE) and aqueous extracts (AQE) have shown moderate inhibitory activity. The dose of 10 mg/ml of EAE significantly inhibited the a- Amylase activity. © 2015 Scientific Publishers. All Rights Reserved.
