Abstract
Enzymes have a wide work in industries for variety of purposes. Microbial kerazyme offer a substantial advantage of degrading keratin waste as they are present in large amounts and easily available in the soil, hair, nails, feathers and poultry waste.[1]Kerazyme is an extracellular enzyme secreted by many microorganisms. In our study feather degrading bacteria were isolated from poultry waste soil and feathers.[1,3] The keratinolytic activity was measured in units from culture filtrate of 3 isolates obtained. Strain C showed maximum keratinolytic activity of units/ml after 124 hours of cultivation. Maximum growth of bacterial colonies in the feather medium was observed during the log phase.
